Leadership & Governance

  • Oversee conservation of 125 year old historic landmark that is among the most protected buildings in DC, including its collections and archives

  • Provide direction for historic interpretation that elevates inclusive storytelling

  • Use compelling storytelling to help visitors make connections between the past and present to inspire future action, exploring the themes of the built environment, design, and craft, labor, and immigration

  • Invent Urban Manufacturing Incubator service program that connects to educational mission and serves hundreds of local artisans annually

Communication & Collaboration

  • Elevate the design of communication in all aspects of the organization, from social media and branding to exhibits and public programming

  • Create and implement comprehensive marketing plan focused on digital platforms and earned media

  • Build strong connected networks for mutual benefit and public good, that includes government officials, professional and civic organizations, and the media

Development & Fundraising

  • Develop forward-thinking business model using an entrepreneurial spirit, drawing dedicated supporters who believe in the organization’s work, and utilizing comprehensive data management tools

  • Develop growth strategies using diverse revenue streams, increasing organizational budget from $250,000 to $1M over 10 years, and growing contributed revenue from 0% to 50% of budget in three years. During pandemic, attract $450,000 from new revenue sources, stabilizing finances

  • Prepare and monitor annual, capital, and project budgets, and provide the Board with timely financial data for budgeting decisions and resource development plans. Work with investment manager to provide healthy stewardship of endowment
